COHLEAR IMPLANT PROGRAMME
- We started the Cochlear Implant programme in 2014, which integrated surgery, hearing evaluation and therapy With the help of this technology, we have been successful in providing hearing, speech and language to many children who were diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss.
- The center is credited for being the first for simultaneous bilateral cochlear implant in North Eastern India.
- For financial assistance, the center has been empanelled for free cochlear implant under ADIP scheme (Central Govt of India scheme) since 2016. Eligibility criteria has been included in details in the AYJNIHH website.

PROCEDURE
During the surgery, under general anesthesia, an opening is made behind the ear and a small area of the mastoid bone hollowed out to lodge the receiver- stimulator part of the device. An array of electrodes is inserted into the cochlea (inner ear). The skin wound is closed over the device. The external part of the device will be programmed & fitted when the wound has healed. The programming is usually done after two or three weeks
